Responsible production at MONIN
Because it is becoming necessary to rethink the way we produce
Agriculture impacted by global warming
The February 2022 GIEC report entitled "Impacts, Adaptation and Vulnerability" explains that extreme weather events are becoming more frequent and intense as a result of climate change.
In France, increasingly severe heat waves are now affecting regions such as Normandy. These regions are experiencing droughts with serious consequences for agriculture. Whether it is high temperatures, drying of the soil or heavy rainfall, these events jeopardise harvests. In addition, rising sea levels and coastal erosion contribute to soil degradation, making some soils impassable for agriculture.
According to the GIEC, crop losses due to droughts and heatwaves have tripled over the last 50 years in Europe
How is Monin committed to a more responsible agriculture?
Monin is a partner of PADV, "Pour une Agriculture du Vivant" (For a Living Agriculture), which supports farmers in the sugar beet sector in implementing agro-ecological practices. Within this framework, we provide financial support for a project to support farmers in implementing these practices in the field and raise the awareness of our teams to the challenges of tomorrow's agriculture. The objective? That 20% of their beet sugar comes from agroecological crops by 2024.
Monin is also developing his own agroecological citrus farm in Portugal. The aim? To understand the challenges of growing our agricultural raw materials and to make the most of all the co-products of the fruit to improve the profitability of our plantation.
Monin wants 50% of its ingredients to be of agroecological origin by 2030. To achieve this, we aim to support over 1000 farmers in their conversion to this type of agriculture.
More responsible production is good for everyone:
- for nature, in order to preserve it
- for customers, in order to have products of the best possible quality
- for Monin, to secure supplies and produce as sustainably as possible.
